Why do some websites I visit not allow me to exit with the back button?

Why do some websites not allow me to leave when I push the back button?
Have you ever been to a website that does not allow you to exit the site when you push the back button on you’re browser? Why does this happen? Is there a way to get around this without having to close down the webpage window and starting a new one?

They do that so that you will stay on their site and look at it instead of going back to what you were doing before. Hitting the back button multiple times usually works, but if it doesn’t, there should be a little down arrow next to the back arrow. If you click that, it should show you 5 or 6 of the past sites you were at, and you can click on the one you want to go back to.
