Genii Magic
how can i show the sentimental and overwhelming genius in my protagonist in a fantasy novel?
also i feel a bit unconfident while elaborating my sentences i am afraid people won;t like it?also,i’ve an original plot but when i;ve to use common elements in fantasy like worlds and magic i get depressed, and feel unoriginal,what should i do?
Before writing your book, perhaps you should “meet” your character. Research people who are like your character. Watch people around you. Go to a cafe and people watch to see which subtle cues and behaviors most remind you of your character.
As for worlds and magic.. Harry Potter was about magic, so was The Hobbit. What makes a magical fantasy spectacular? If you’re uncomfortable with the lack of originality, perhaps the setting needs a bit more refinement. Figure out what makes a fantasy stand out. And what makes it just another book on a shelf full of D and D knock offs.
Hint: “There was this magical world, and this misfit underdog character… and this evil magical bad guy was going to destroy everything.. so the misfit had to journey across the world, and despite all odds saved the day” describes ninety percent of all magical fantasy books made. Including Harry Potter and the Hobbit. So, you can bet that a good setting with good characters is more important than breaking the mold on the whole fantasy theme.
Here’s a last note… If you want to write, don’t read. Reading will put images into your mind and you may subconsciously mimic the things that you’ve recently read. So don’t read any fantasy novels until your own book is done, lest you inadvertantly use elements from other books in your own work.
