What kind of elf is Elrond in The Hobbit?
I’m a little confused about what kind of elf Elrond is. If I remember correctly, it’s the wood-elves that take the dwarves captive after they escape from the spiders. Is Elrond a wood-elf too? Their kinds seem very different. The book says something about “high elves of the west.” Is he a high elf? Also, did his elves fight during the battle of five armies? It seems like they don’t, because Bilbo stops there on the way back and tells them about it, but one of the armies are the elves. I’m just a little confused and was hoping that somebody could clear this up!

Half-elf, high elf, who choose to live as an immortal rather than his human half. Yes the elves were one of the five armies and Rivendel is populated by high elves, the elves at the battle are wood elves.
