Homespun Fairy
Looking for Members of “Pass Around Quilters” Round Robin Quilt Project Yahoo Group – Late 90′s, early 2000′s

Several years ago I belonged to a Yahoo group that was called “PAQ” (I think). This stood for “Pass Around Quilters” and we completed quilt tops in a Round Robin fashion. I am actually starting to quilt my wonderful top today and it has got me wondering about the women that worked on my quilt top. There was my dear friend Carolyn Dilday whom I lost contact with, a sweet girl named Rita, a Leslie, and others. There was a homespun plaid top that I worked on, one that I appliqued leaves, acorns, and squirrels on, and a gorgeous batik top. While a member of this group I also participated in a crazy quilt block PAQ and hosted a miniature PAQ. My large PAQ started with an appliqued fairy in the center and these women added some of the most wonderful borders that I have ever seen ! I would love to get in contact with these women again. I would love to chat and see their completed quilts. Are you one of them or do you know of someone that might have belonged to this group?

…sounds like this is the group you are looking for… but group has no current activity. Maybe email to listowner might put you in contact with someone?

Homespun Remedies provides creative, practical strategies for helping children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) to function effectively at home and in the community. Dion E. Betts and Nancy J. Patrick offer sensible and specific approaches to tackling day-to-day problems faced by parents and carers, such as bathing, feeding, haircuts, and shopping. The book is split into four parts, covering home life, community, hygiene, and schools and organizations, and common problem areas are listed alphabetically and supplemented with homespun” tips and advice. The book is peppered with vignettes and stories of real-life situations and successes. This accessible resource encourages parents and carers to think in autism – to take the perspective of an ASD child and work to make their environment a friendlier place. Homespun Remedies advocates small and simple changes that result in big improvements in the quality of life for children, their families and carers. ”

“Mountain Homespun will be of special interest to those studying southern Appalachian handicrafts, the 1890s handicraft revival, and northern Protestant missionary work in turn-of-the-century Appalachia.” —North Carolina Historical Review “Mountain Homespun is much more than a memoir. It offers unrivaled specific information on the processes of mountain crafts—not only on weaving, spinning, and dyeing, the author’s primary interest, but also on basketry, quilting, and other pursuits. All in all, the book is an important publishing event.” —Berea College Newsletter   “This is a wonderful book. It belongs at the bedside of every spinner and weaver everywhere.” —Jude Daurelle, Handwoven

The Age of Homespun

The Age of Homespun

$13.99

They began their existence as everyday objects, but in the hands of Bancroft Award-winning historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, fourteen domestic items from preindustrial America–ranging from a linen tablecloth to an unfinished sock–relinquish their stories and offer profound insights into our history. In an age when even meals are rarely made from scratch, homespun easily acquires the glow of nostalgia. The objects Ulrich investigates unravel those simplified illusions, revealing important clues to the culture and people who made them. Ulrich uses an Indian basket to explore the uneasy coexistence of native and colonial Americans. A piece of silk embroidery reveals racial and class distinctions, and two old spinning wheels illuminate the connections between colonial cloth-making and war. Pulling these divergent threads together, Ulrich demonstrates how early Americans made, used, sold, and saved textiles in order to assert their identities, shape relationships, and create history. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Homespun Bride

Montana Territory in 1883 was a dangerous place–especially for a blind woman struggling to make her way through an early winter snowstorm. Undaunted, Noelle Kramer fought to remain independent. But then a runaway horse nearly plunged her into a rushing, ice-choked river, before a stranger’s strong, sure hand saved her from certain death. And yet this was no stranger. Though she could not know it, her rescuer was rancher Thad McKaslin, the man who had once loved her more than life itself. Losing her had shaken all his most deeply held beliefs. Now he wondered if the return of this strong woman was a sign that somehow he could find his way home.
