Lord of the Rings fanatics, help?

I was thinking of writing a fanfiction, but I’ve only read the first book and half of the second book and that was a long time ago. I’ve also watched the movie many times, but I still feel I am lacking knowledge of the elves. I was hoping you could jot down some things about the elves. If they’re specific to Lothlorien, Rivendell, or Mirkwood, I’d like if you said as much.

I’m looking for anything really. Some basic words or things about their culture, diet, habits, anything. Even odd facts or something.

I’ve tried writing fanfictions before, but it’s hard to get the elvish culture down, without knowing very much about them. I’m just to lazy, or otherwise busy, to go through and read the books.

I appreciate it.

Honestly, if you want to write decent fanfic, you should at least read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Ideally, you should read The Silmarillion as well.

One thing that many people don’t get is that the elves can be light-hearted and playful, which you definitely don’t see in the movies. They are able to vanish in the woods–not literally, but they are so intimately familiar with the woods that they can be practically invisible to other races. Also, if your knowledge comes mainly from the movies, please forget everything you know about Arwen.
