How important do you think GOOD wrestling announcers are?

I’m watching some old matches right now with Gorilla Monsoon as the announcer. The match really sucks, but Gorilla Monsoon’s voice makes it magical.

I think the problem with wrestling today is the announcing. Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler are boring IMO. I miss JR and the King.

Watching on TV, they are just as important as the wrestlers and matches themselves. They can kill a match, or they can make a poor match good or even great. You say Lawler sucks now, and I agree. He’s a shell of his former self. 90s heel Lawler was only rivaled by Bobby Heenan in the category of funny and entertaining. Sometimes he’d make a dull Monday Night Raw into a good show. Micheal Cole was at his best during the ’02/’03 Smackdown era with Tazz calling Brock and Kurt Angle matches, along with all the other top stars on that brand at the time. They’ve turned Cole into a b*tch, to be straight forward about it
