Nocturne Fairy
pianists…I need ur opinion?
The thing is I want to find out if I’m going to fast , normal or too slow in learnng the piano.
I started playing when I was 10(old I know) and before I was 11 I stopped, then I continued at age 13. I’m still playing until now. I’m almost 14(by the end of Feb ^_^V). In other words…I’ve been playing the piano for 1 1/2 yrs.
The ear-candy piece I can play is Fur Elise. I can play the first part of The Entertainer. I can play a piece in the anime Naruto (Grief and Sorrow). I’m perfecting Turkish March (by Mozart). And curently learning Chopin’s Nocturne in Eb Op. 9 No. 2. The other pieces like Arabesque, Harebell, Musette, Little Fairy Waltz, etc, etc….are not ear-candy ACCORDING TO people who dont play piano.
I feel a little insecure about my predicament. Since I always see child prodigies in You tube….who can play the piaces I’m playing now by the age of 7-9….sigh. Am I too slow?

i was a rated chess player before i became a piano player. i was fifteen– fearless againsts masters and candidate masters. then i lost a game againsts a 10 yr. old boy. i stopped playing chess because i realized that competition is not my vocation. and now, i don’t hear the name of this ‘child prodigy’ anymore. so he is not a prodigy after all.
so don’t worry. prodigy doesn’t exist anymore.
it’s like saying: we know chopin and liszt… but during their time, kalkbrenner was the famous vituoso. and yet we don’t know this kalkbrenner.
it’s just like that.
so just keep your pace. whether slow or fast. it doesn’t really matter. it is you and your music.
remember the great painter Jan Vermeer…it takes months and months for him to finish a painting.
creativity is a process.
