Revolutionary Coin

Revolutionary Coin
Is it time for the 2nd American Revolutionary war?

The Dems are as bad as the GOP (although Bush makes everything even worse) & since both parties have a monopoly on all US elections what is the point of having a vote? Mine as well just flip a coin because nothing in Washington ever really changes. Scandals, lies, cheating, wasting tax money, no accountability, lobbyists, special interests, etc… Doesn’t matter if it’s a man, women, minority, or a monkey. Today’s Dems/GOP make America worse not better.

Yes, I have to agree with you. America is the worst country in he world, except for all the others.

The revolutionary ideals of equality, communal living, proletarian morality, and technology worship, rooted in Russian utopianism, generated a range of social experiments which found expression, in the first decade of the Russian revolution, in festival, symbol, science fiction, city planning, and the arts. In this study, historian Richard Stites offers a vivid portrayal of revolutionary life and the cultural factors–myth, ritual, cult, and symbol–that sustained it, and describes the principal forms of utopian thinking and experimental impulse. Analyzing the inevitable clash between the authoritarian elements in the Bolshevik's vision and the libertarian behavior and aspirations of large segments of the population, Stites interprets the pathos of utopian fantasy as the key to the emotional force of the Bolshevik revolution which gave way in the early 1930s to bureaucratic state centralism and a theology of Stalinism.

In this collection of interdisciplinary essays, historians and literary critics from both sides of the Atlantic analyse some of the most significant watersheds and faultlines that occurred in the period 1775-1815, a crucial era in the history of Euro-Americans relations. Tracing complex patterns of intellectual and cultural cross-pollination between the Old and the New World, between pre-and post-Revolutionary cultures, the essays aim to increase out awareness of the degree to which the emergence of cultural nationalism in this period was essentially a transatlantic process – a process that was itself part of a larger circumatlantic cultural continuum.

In 1864, the government censor Osip Antonovich Przhet-slavsky retired to his modest estate near Tver to tend his garden and study Freemasonry, a subject that had long fascinated him. Convinced as he was that Freemasons were in league not only with foreign revolutionary and socialist societies but also with terrorists inside Russia, Przhetslavsky spent several years compiling his suspicions, findings and conclusions into a work he called The Great Secret of the Freemasons.’ He sent the manuscript to his former colleagues in St Petersburg.

Revolutionary Founders

Revolutionary Founders

$12.99

In twenty-two original essays, leading historians reveal the radical impulses at the founding of the American Republic. Here is a fresh new reading of the American Revolution that gives voice and recognition to a generation of radical thinkers and doers whose revolutionary ideals outstripped those of the Founding Fathers. While the Founding Fathers advocated a break from Britain and espoused ideals of republican government, none proposed significant changes to the fabric of colonial society. As privileged and propertied white males, they did not seek a revolution in the modern sense; instead, they tried to maintain the underlying social structure and political system that enabled men of wealth to rule. They firmly opposed social equality and feared popular democracy as a form of “levelling.” Yet during this “revolutionary” period some people did believe that “liberty” meant “liberty for all” and that “equality” should be applied to political, economic, and religious spheres. Here are the stories of individuals and groups who exemplified the radical ideals of the American Revolution more in keeping with our own values today. This volume helps us to understand the social conflicts unleashed by the struggle for independence, the Revolution’s achievements, and the unfinished agenda it left for future generations to confront. From the Hardcover edition.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a uniquely reluctant and distinctly German Lutheran revolutionary. In this volume, the author, an Anglican priest and historian, argues that Bonhoeffer’s powerful critique of Germany’s moral derailment needs to be understood as the expression of a devout Lutheran Protestant. Bonhoeffer gradually recognized the ways in which the intellectual and religious traditions of his own classthe Bildungsbrgertumwere enabling Nazi evil. In response, he offered a religiously inspired call to political opposition and Christian witnesswhich cost him his life. The author investigates Bonhoeffer’s stance in terms of his confrontation with the legacy of Hegelianism and Neo-Rankeanism, and by highlighting Bonhoeffer’s intellectual and spiritual journey, shows how his endeavor to politicially reeducate the German people must be examined in theological terms.

From Harriet Tubman, Emma Goldman, and Angela Davis to Vandana Shiva, Sylvia Rivera, and Lucy Parsons, this collection offers a subversive portrait celebrating the military prowess and revolutionary drive of these women whose violent resolve often shatters the archetype of woman as nurturer. In Urbane Revolutionary: C. L. R. James and the Struggle for a New Society, Frank Rosengarten traces the intellectual and political development of C. L. R. James (1901-1989), one of the most significant Caribbean intellectuals of the twentieth century. In his political and philo-sophical commentary, his histories, drama, letters, memoir, and fiction, James broke new ground dealing with the fundamental issues of his age-colonialism and postcolo-nialism, Soviet socialism and wes-tern neo-liberal capitalism, and the uses of race, class, and gender as tools for analysis. The author examines in depth three facets of James\'s work: his interpretation and use of Marxist, Trotskyist, and Leninist concepts; his approach to Caribbean and African struggles for independence in the 1950s and 1960s; and his branching into prose fiction, dra-ma, and literary criticism. Rosen-garten analyzes James\'s previously underexplored relationships with women and with the women\'s liberation movement. The study also scrutinizes James\'s methods of research and writing. Rosengarten explores James\'s provocative and influential concepts regarding black liberation in the Caribbean, Africa, the United States, and Great Britain and James\'s varying responses to revolutionary movements. With its extensive use of unpublished letters, private correspondence, papers, books, and other documents, Urbane Revolutionary provides fresh insights into the work of one of the twentieth century\'s most important intellectuals and activists. Frank Rosengarten is professor emeritus of Italian and compa-rative literature at the City University of New York. He is the author of The Writings of the Young Marcel Proust (1885-1900): An Ideological Critique and The Italian Anti-Fascist Press, 1919-1945.

Revolutionary Wealth

Revolutionary Wealth

$13.99

Starting with the publication of their seminal bestseller, Future Shock , Alvin and Heidi Toffler have given millions of readers new ways to think about personal life in today’s high-speed world with its constantly changing, seemingly random impacts on our businesses, governments, families and daily lives. Now, writing with the same rare grasp and clarity that made their earlier books classics, the Tofflers turn their attention to the revolution in wealth now sweeping the planet. And once again, they provide a penetrating, coherent way to make sense of the seemingly senseless. Revolutionary Wealth is about how tomorrow’s wealth will be created, and who will get it and how. But twenty-first-century wealth, according to the Tofflers, is not just about money, and cannot be understood in terms of industrial-age economics. Thus they write here about everything from education and child rearing to Hollywood and China, from everyday truth and misconceptions to what they call our “third job”—the unnoticed work we do without pay for some of the biggest corporations in our country. They show the hidden connections between extreme sports, chocolate chip cookies, Linux software and the “surplus complexity” in our lives as society wobbles back and forth between depressing decadence and a hopeful post-decadence. In their earlier work, the Tofflers coined the word “prosumer” for people who consume what they themselves produce. In Revolutionary Wealth they expand the concept to reveal how many of our activities—whether parenting or volunteering, blogging, painting our house, improving our diet, organizing a neighborhood council or even “mashing” music—pump “free lunch” from the “hidden” non-money economy into the money economy that economists track. Prosuming, they forecast, is about to explode and compel radical changes in the way we measure, make and manipulate wealth. Blazing with fresh ideas, Revolutionary Wealth provides readers with powerful new tools for thinking about—and preparing for—their future. From the Hardcover edition.

Romantic Revolutionary

Simon Bolivar was the archetypal romantic revolutionary. Born into privilege and nurtured in the Rousseau’s philosophy of the Homme Sauvage , it was not until the young colonial visited Europe that the taper of revolution was lit that sent the young man on a death-defying quest to fight for the people of his homeland, and eventually liberate the whole of continental South America. Bolivar’s struggle for liberty is a story of extraordinary courage and fortune. Since the age of the Conquistadores, South America was controlled from Spain with an iron grip. The Spanish army brutalised the people while the wealth of the continent was shipped away to Europe. In 1807 he returned to Caracas and joined the resistance movement, declaring independence for Venezuela four years later. He soon gave up politics, however, to search for a military solution, devising the ‘Decree of War until Death’ in July 1813, and claiming the title El Liberador . Yet once again, after initial victories he found himself fleeing for his life. His final campaign from 1817 to 1821 saw the eventual liberation of Venezuela, Columbia, Equador and Panama. He continued his commitment to liberty with the subsequent conquest of Peru. In 1825, the new nation of Bolivia was created in the spirit that had driven Bolivar himself to achieve so much – revolutionary zeal and enlightenment principles. Nonetheless, by 1828 Bolivar had declared himself a dictator. After assassination attempts and uprisings the liberator was finally hounded from office and eventually died as he waited to go into exile in Europe. Bestselling author of The War of Wars , Robert Harvey bring a lifetime’s fascination into Bolivar and explores the complex personality behind the revolutionary. He vividly recreates the story of the campaigns and draws a panoramic portrait of South America at the turning of the Spanish Empire.

Revolutionary Womanhood

Revolutionary Womanhood

$24.95

The first major historical account of gender politics during the Nasser era, Revolutionary Womanhood analyzes feminism as a system of ideas and political practices, international in origin but local in iteration. Drawing connections between the secular nationalist projects that emerged in the 1950s and the gender politics of Islamism today, Laura Bier reveals how discussions about education, companionate marriage, and enlightened motherhood, as well as veiling, work, and other means of claiming public space created opportunities to reconsider the relationship between modernity, state feminism, and postcolonial state-building. Bier highlights attempts by political elites under Nasser to transform Egyptian women into national subjects. These attempts to fashion a “new” yet authentically Egyptian woman both enabled and constrained women’s notions of gender, liberation, and agency. Ultimately, Bier challenges the common assumption that these emerging feminisms were somehow not culturally or religiously authentic, and details their lasting impact on Egyptian womanhood today.

The Revolutionary Era

The Revolutionary Era

$108

From 1776 to 1800, the United States ceased to be a fantastic dream and became a stable reality. Newspapers were increasingly the public's major source of information about people and events outside of their community. The press reflected the issues of the day. Its foremost concern was naturally the armed struggle with Britain. The press covered the conflict, providing both patriot and loyalist interpretations of the battles and personalities. Yet after the British withdrew, a host of new challenges confronted the United States, including the Articles of Confederation, Shay's Rebellion, the Bill of the Rights, the Whiskey Rebellion, slavery, women's roles, the French Revolution, the XYZ Affair, the Sedition Act, and more. Again, the press not only purveyed the facts. It became a political tool trumpeting the viewpoint of Republicans and Federalists, ushering in a new era of American journalism. Beginning with an extensive overview essay of the period, this book focuses on 26 pressing issues of the war and the early republic. Each issue is presented with an introductory essay and multiple primary documents from the newspapers of the day, which illustrate both sides of the debate. This is a perfect resource for students interested in the Revolutionary War, the birth of the new nation, and the actual opinions and words of those involved.

A Tibetan Revolutionary

A Tibetan Revolutionary

$21.95

This is the as-told-to political autobiography of Phntso Wangye (Phnwang), one of the most important Tibetan revolutionary figures of the twentieth century. Phnwang began his activism in school, where he founded a secret Tibetan Communist Party. He was expelled in 1940, and for the next nine years he worked to organize a guerrilla uprising against the Chinese who controlled his homeland. In 1949, he merged his Tibetan Communist Party with Mao’s Chinese Communist Party. He played an important role in the party’s administrative organization in Lhasa and was the translator for the young Dalai Lama during his famous 1954-55 meetings with Mao Zedong. In the 1950s, Phnwang was the highest-ranking Tibetan official within the Communist Party in Tibet. Though he was fluent in Chinese, comfortable with Chinese culture, and devoted to socialism and the Communist Party, Phnwang’s deep commitment to the welfare of Tibetans made him suspect to powerful Han colleagues. In 1958 he was secretly detained; three years later, he was imprisoned in solitary confinement in Beijing’s equivalent of the Bastille for the next eighteen years. Informed by vivid firsthand accounts of the relations between the Dalai Lama, the Nationalist Chinese government, and the People’s Republic of China, this absorbing chronicle illuminates one of the world’s most tragic and dangerous ethnic conflicts at the same time that it relates the fascinating details of a stormy life spent in the quest for a new Tibet.

“In God We Trust person or un Tenemos confianza en Dios persona? In a perpetual duty-bound slavery to FED Notes? Freedom of speech sabotaged? Food Stamps, the modern Stamp Act, imposed to support lazy people Surrounded by selfish Civilian cowards during wartime? Suffer loss of a job due to Affirmative Action quotas? Criminals released and roam free to commit again. Who actually is an African American.? Has your Church fallen for the idiotic 501c3 Gag order, become of the harlot in Revelations, and/or harbors an antichrist/false prophet diluting the Word of God? John F. Kennedy once said: “A revolution is coming – a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough – but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.” Treber Caleb Doall was orphaned at a young age. Fortunately, a God fearing man took him into his home to teach him discipline, love, and morals. He has overcome embarrassing moments, dangerous falls, and the selfish desire for love. Currently, he holds the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army, but has willingly embraced challenges to serve his country in need, despite uneducated criticisms. With this book, he’s become a humble amateur writer with a brave revolutionary story to tell. Grow with him as he stands against evil, climbs in triumphant and yes falls at unfortunate times, finding himself on his knees somewhere in between humanity and spirituality. “With his gun he ends peace. His words set family members against themselves. And his actions transform people into a united mass; the greatest threat to our blessed status quo.”The American Communist Lawyers Union 2013.”

The Revolutionary War

The Revolutionary War

$91

Nearly everyone in the U.S. has studied the Revolutionary War. Too often, however, historians of the Revolution focus on the activity of the army without noticing what was taking place inside the army. Making liberal use of diaries and correspondence by the soldiers and their families, Charles P. Neimeyer tells the stories of the men and women who fought for the young country's independence. Sometimes starting off as rag-tag groups of men shooting off their muskets at geese just for the thrill of the sound, the soldiers became more disciplined and focused. The army recruited a significant number of African American soldiers, who fought side by side with whites. Women also fought and served in the army, either masquerading as male soldiers or providing support for army operations in camp and on the march. Suffering through times of numbing cold and starvation where men boiled their shoes for food, the sheer perseverance of the soldiers in the ranks ultimately won the war for independence. Presenting stories from letters and diaries of the men and women of the time, this volume reveals the stories of fear, exhaustion, hard work, grief, and exhilaration of the people in the camps and on the march. Highlights include: ; Recruitment, which included just about any healthy man willing to serve, including immigrants and enemy POWs ; General Washington's attempts to create a model, respectable army ; Attempts at medical treatment, and the ravages of smallpox, which left men dying at makeshift hospitals ; African American soldiers in the War ; Women's contributions to war efforts, whether in disguise as soldiers, or in filling in for husbands killed in battle ; Daily life in the camp: the monotony, the lack of food and supplies, drinking, sleeping in huts and out in the open, games, letter writing and religious observations ; The failure to fairly pay the soldiers as they mustered out of service The book also includes a timeline that puts dates and events in better perspective; a comprehensive, topically arranged bibliography; and a thorough index.

The Revolutionary Constitution

The Revolutionary Constitution

$24.95

The framers of the Constitution chose their words carefully when they wrote of a more perfect union–not absolutely perfect, but with room for improvement. Indeed, we no longer operate under the same Constitution as that ratified in 1788, or even the one completed by the Bill of Rights in 1791–because we are no longer the same nation. In The Revolutionary Constitution, David J. Bodenhamer provides a comprehensive new look at America's basic law, integrating the latest legal scholarship with historical context to highlight how it has evolved over time. The Constitution, he notes, was the product of the first modern revolution, and revolutions are, by definition, moments when the past shifts toward an unfamiliar future, one radically different from what was foreseen only a brief time earlier. In seeking to balance power and liberty, the framers established a structure that would allow future generations to continually readjust the scale. Bodenhamer explores this dynamic through seven major constitutional themes: federalism, balance of powers, property, representation, equality, rights, and security. With each, he takes a historical approach, following their changes over time. For example, the framers wrote multiple protections for property rights into the Constitution in response to actions by state governments after the Revolution. But twentieth-century courts–and Congress–redefined property rights through measures such as zoning and the designation of historical landmarks (diminishing their commercial value) in response to the needs of a modern economy. The framers anticipated just such a future reworking of their own compromises between liberty and power. With up-to-the-minute legal expertise and a broad grasp of the social and political context, this book is a tour de force of Constitutional history and analysis.

Elliott demonstrates how America's first men of letters–Timothy Dwight, Joel Barlow, Philip Freneau, Hugh Henry Brackenridge, and Charles Brockden Brown–sought to make individual genius in literature express the collective genius of the American people. Without literary precedent to aid them, Elliott argues, these writers attempted to convey a vision of what America ought to be; and when the moral imperatives implicit in their writings were rejected by the vast number of their countrymen they became pioneers of another sort–the first to experience the alienation from mainstream American culture that would become the fate of nearly all serious writers who would follow.

The American Revolution was a home-front war that brought scarcity, bloodshed, and danger into the life of every American. In this groundbreaking history, Carol Berkin shows us how women played a vital role throughout the conflict. The women of the Revolution were most active at home, organizing boycotts of British goods, raising funds for the fledgling nation, and managing the family business while struggling to maintain a modicum of normalcy as husbands, brothers and fathers died. Yet Berkin also reveals that it was not just the men who fought on the front lines, as in the story of Margaret Corbin, who was crippled for life when she took her husband’s place beside a cannon at Fort Monmouth. This incisive and comprehensive history illuminates a fascinating and unknown side of the struggle for American independence. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Releasing the Captives is a prophetic journey presenting an unseen captivity that holds Christians back from the purposes and calling God has for their lives.  A spiritually thought-provoking voyage into a prison where a prisoner’s mind binds his body with chains that only he can break by focusing on Jesus. The prisoner encounters the Lord, the Warden (satan), apostle Paul, Peter, Mary Magdalene, and Abraham. The prison scenes are vivid and the bondages that keep believers from being completely free are brutally true and will stir your spirit and soul. Presented in a refreshingly unique way, new as well as seasoned Christians will be shocked into realizing that they are imprisoning themselves day after day, year after year—falling as easy prey to satan’s deceptions and evil ploys.   You will learn how to: See yourself and others through God’s eyes. Avoid traps and lies of the enemy. Live outside of the bondages that grow comfortable. Walk forward with the Lord, not turn back to previous cycles. Live out the testimony of Jesus to release captives.   You can leave behind the chains of judgment, the bars of unbelief, and the walls of your past to join Jesus and hear God’s voice, creating a new closeness with the Lord.

Bringing to life the complex creeds and personalities of America’s Founding Fathers, this book confronts many of the myths about the religious views of some of the most notable figures in history. Offering clear and candid portraits of Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Paine, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison as both religious reformers and political rebels, this analysis tells the illuminating story of these unorthodox men of faith and thought and reclaims their spiritual inheritance for all Americans. Providing a careful examination of how the Founders’ nature-based spirituality was tied to their fascination with science, this record includes discussions on Washington’s aversion to using the word “God” in public pronouncements, Jefferson’s mathematical calculations to show that the biblical great flood would have been impossible, and Paine’s thoughts on the possibilities of alien life.

More than a straightforward compendium of people, places, events, and dates involved in the Mexican Revolution, this reference is designed as a guide to the basic sources, allowing readers to draw upon the best of modern scholarship on the topic. A complete, chronological listing of the persons and events of the revolution, it begins with the births of the main personages in the 1800s and continues through the final battle of the revolution. References are compiled in a clear, concise, chronological order, cutting through the otherwise overwhelming nature of an event that sprawled across the length and breadth of a country for more than a decade. While even the most magisterial of works dealing with the revolution are only able to focus on a single figure, movement, or particular region in the country, this volume ties all the complexity and chaos of the world’s first popular social revolution together, putting historical details at the fingertips of students and scholars.

Since 1996, Richard Brookhiser has devoted himself to recovering the Founding for modern Americans. The creators of our democracy had both the temptations and the shortcomings of all men, combined with the talents and idealism of the truly great. Among them, no Founding Father demonstrates the combination of temptations and talents quite so vividly as the least known of the greats, Gouverneur Morris. His story is one that should be known by every American — after all, he drafted the Constitution, and his hand lies behind many of its most important phrases. Yet he has been lost in the shadows of the Founders who became presidents and faces on our currency. As Brookhiser shows in this sparkling narrative, Morris’s story is not only crucial to the Founding, it is also one of the most entertaining and instructive of all. Gouverneur Morris, more than Washington, Jefferson, or even Franklin, is the Founding Father whose story can most readily touch our hearts, and whose character is most sorely needed today. He was a witty, peg-legged ladies’ man. He was an eyewitness to two revolutions (American and French) who joked with George Washington, shared a mistress with Talleyrand, and lost friends to the guillotine. In his spare time he gave New York City its street grid and New York State the Erie Canal. His keen mind and his light, sure touch helped make our Constitution the most enduring fundamental set of laws in the world. In his private life, he suited himself; pleased the ladies until, at age fifty-seven, he settled down with one lady (and pleased her); and lived the life of a gentleman, for whom grace and humanity were as important as birth. He kept his good humor through war, mobs, arson, death, and two accidents that burned the flesh from one of his arms and cut off one of his legs below the knee. Above all, he had the gift of a sunny disposition that allowed him to keep his head in any troubles. We have much to learn from him, and much pleasure to take in his company.

Revolutionary Characters

In this brilliantly illuminating group portrait of the men who came to be known as the Founding Fathers, the incomparable Gordon Wood has written a book that seriously asks, ?What made these men great???and shows us, among many other things, just how much character did in fact matter. The life of each?Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, Hamilton, Madison, Paine?is presented individually as well as collectively, but the thread that binds these portraits together is the idea of character as a lived reality. They were members of the first generation in history that was self-consciously self-made?men who understood that the arc of lives, as of nations, is one of moral progress.

Imparting a vision to people that motivates them to change is large task. Putting the vision in motion can create a seemingly monumental task at times. But when we understand the power of synergy with leadership, the vision God gives us may be much closer to reality than we think. In this book, Tri Robinson, pastor of the Boise Vineyard Church, shares what he has learned in his journey of planting a church with 12 families and growing it to over 3,000 weekly attendees in 15 years. This book explains practically what that looks like as well as sharing inspiring stories of those who have caught this concept and implemented it in their own leadership.
