How long will a “silver plate” spoon last as a ring?

I’m considering a spoon-made-ring as a wedding ring, and it is listed as “silver plate”. The spoons were originally made between 1938 and 1946. The only time I take off my rings are for bed, bath, hand-washing and the like. Will it last a lifetime, or only a few years? Will upkeep be complicated? I’m not too keen on asking the seller for fear of getting the generic, “Yes, it’s super-durable and will last forever!”

It will last, probably, a couple of years (2-3, maybe 5) before the plating starts coming off. It will probably start coming off on the edges and any high points first.

Did you know that you can get things re-plated? You might want to look into it if you’re set on this style of ring.

Go ahead and ask the seller, you might get lied to, but you also might get some very valuable advice on how to keep it looking its best. Also, if it’s a good seller, expected life of the piece or even if they’ll do the re-plating.
