How to improve in Black Ops?

I just started using the stoner and it has become my favorite gun, I suck with any others.
I use:
Stoner63 with extended mags
Flak Jacket
Sleight of Hand
Tactical Mask
Frag and Nova Gas
Secondary: First Launcher
My main problem is that in close-Mid range I start shooting and I am off by about 1 feet off the guy so they kill me. What can I do to always shoot into the guy? I used to play on PC but know I moved to 360, my PC could not run black ops. Should I go to this mode like multiplayer but controlled by CPU´s or just play online. Should I change my sensitivity to lock targets more easily? I currently play on 4.

Your setup is pretty nice, but it sets you up for moving slowly. The Stoner is a great gun but it counts as an LMG. If you’re worried about getting kills or improving on playing objective games too, you really should consider moving faster. The more area you can cover, the more useful you are toward winning and getting on the enemy’s backside. I would takeoff the nova gas and tactical mask. Replace it with marathon.

As for shooting up close, every situation is different. It all depends on how you think you can handle it. Sensitivity is what you feel comfortable with. Mine is 8, but I’m crazy. If you want a different gun that packs power and is still accurate and mobile. I love the ak74u with rapid fire. The rapid fire ensures you will kill anyone you’re aiming at faster than they can shoot. Especially in close range combat
