Can someone tell me how good the series by Anne Mcaffrey is?

Is that how you spell her name? It’s called the Dragon Riders I think. Anyway I want to know how good it is because I am running out of books to read all I have to do is finish Eldest and read Sunset by Erin Hunter….good series by the way, but I’d start with the original series….anyways, if you have any other fantasy books you want to recommend me, go right ahead. I am currently on Spring Break now and will do nothing but read, and have finished majority of my homework, just finishing a test.

I really enjoyed the Dragon Riders of Pern series, especially when I was younger. They’re a solid introduction to SF and fantasy (they lean more towards the SF end, despite the dragons). The stories are pretty compelling, the characters decently written and pretty solid. McCaffrey’s definitely one of the more prolific modern SF/F writers, and one of the more popular. You’ll want to start with Dragonflight, her first novel. It’s a solid introduction to the world of Pern, which is basically a colony world long forgotten by Earth (Terra). The settlers, too, have forgotten their old homeworld. For generations they’ve lived pretty much in peace on Pern. But the real hazard of life on Pern comes in the form of Thread, a byproduct caused when Pern’s orbit comes in close range of a red star. The Thread can destroy all organic matter at first touch, and can be destroyed or neutralized only through incineration by flame or coming into contact with water or stone. The Dragon Riders are the first line of defense against the Thread, burning it in the air before it can land and destroy the civilization below, people, animals, and crops. But the Thread hasn’t fallen in years, and there are some who say it won’t ever again. And so begins Dragonflight. If you liked Eragon, you’ll probably enjoy McCaffrey’s work, as Paolini borrowed some of his ideas from her.
