Thomas Faerie

What one of these books should a 15 year old boy read?
Here are the books
1. The Sword in the Stone by T. H. White
2. The Once and future King by T. H. White
3. The Book of the THousand Nights and a Night by Sir Richard Francis Burton
4. The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever by Stephen R. Donaldson
5. Thieves’ World by Anthology
Could please tell me what book to read and why
P. S. I read harry potter and I would like to read another book dealing with wizards, witches, magic.. the whole lot. I don’t really like dragon or faerie books and nothing too scary! any suggestions are welcome
don’t say Deryni novels by Katherine Kurtz because i already pre-ordered the book
sorry its kinda a long question Thanks for your help and answers! PEACE!
I would read Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind. His entire series is adventurous, amazing, detailed and it just keeps you sucked in. I warn it stars off a little bit slow. But It’s full of Wizards, even better than Harry Potter. I have the first book with me I’ll write out the back of it for you.
“In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, appears in Richard Cypher’s forest sanctuary seeking help… and more. his world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence.
In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan calls upon Richard to reach beyond his sword– to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed.. or that their time has run out.
This is the beginning. One book. One Rule. Witness the birth of a Legend.”
You said not to violent. Well I’m a girl, and I read this entire series which is around 11 books. and the harry potter series. I assure you, this series is better than harry potter and it’s a more mature too.
Look my up if you start reading it, or need other books like it, cause my entire family is obsessed with fantasy books involving magic.

The Faerie Queene $22.79 The Faerie Queene was the first epic in English and one of the most influential poems in the language for later poets from Milton to Tennyson. Dedicating his work to Elizabeth I, Spenser brilliantly united medieval romance and renaissance epic to expound the glory of the Virgin Queen. The poem recounts the quests of knights including Sir Guyon, Knight of Constance, who resists temptation, and Artegall, Knight of Justice, whose story alludes to the execution of Mary Queen of Scots. Composed as an overt moral and political allegory, The Faerie Queene, with its dramatic episodes of chivalry, pageantry and courtly love, is also a supreme work of atmosphere, colour and sensuous description. |

Archaeologies of English Renaissance Literature $118.28 This study draws on the theory and practice of archaeology to develop a new perspective on the literature of the Renaissance. Philip Schwyzer explores the fascination with images of excavation, exhumation, and ruin that runs through literary texts including Spenser’s Faerie Queene, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet, Donne’s sermons and lyrics, and Thomas Browne’s Hydriotaphia, or Urne-Buriall. Miraculously preserved corpses, ruined monasteries, Egyptian mummies, and Yorick’s skull all figure in this study of the early modern archaeological imagination. The pessimism ofthe period is summed up in the haunting motif of the beautiful corpse that, once touched, crumbles to dust. Archaeology and literary studies are themselves products of the Renaissance. Although the two disciplines have sometimes viewed one another as rivals, they share a unique and unsettling intimacy with the traces of past life–with the words the dead wrote, sang, or heard, with the objects they made, held, or lived within. Schwyzer argues that at the root of both forms of scholarship lies the forbidden desire to awaken (and speak with) the dead. However impossible or absurd this desire may be, it remains a fundamental source of both ethical responsibility and aesthetic pleasure. |

The book address the two principal literary works in which the transformation becomes apparent, Thomas More”s Utopia and Edmund Spenser”s Faerie Queene, and sketches the history of equity to its roots in the Greek concept of epieikeia, uncovering along the way both previously unexplained distinctions, and a long-obscured esoteric meaning. These rediscoveries, when brought to bear upon the Utopia and Faerie Queene, illuminate critical though relatively neglected textual passages that have long puzzled scholars. |

King Arthur: A Casebook $117.47 Examining the origins of the Arthurian legend and major trends in the portrayal of Arthur from the Middle Ages to the present, this collection focuses on discussion of literature written in English, French, Latin, and German. Its 16 essays, four published here for the first time, deal with such matters as the search for the historical Arthur; the depiction of Arthur in the romances Erec and Iwein of Hartmann von Aue; the way Arthur is depicted in 19th-century art and the Victorian view of manhood; and conceptions of King Arthur in 20th-century literature. Six of the essays, originally published in French and German, are translated into English especially for this book. Two essays have been substantially revised. An introduction offers a general discussion of the development of the legends in the countries of Europe.Works discussed include medieval and Renaissance chronicles (Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regum Britanniae, Wace’s Roman de Brut, Polydore Vergil’s Anglica Historia, Scottish vernacular and Latin chronicles), medieval romances (the Lancelot en prose, the Mort Artu, the Post-Vulgate Roman du Graal, and works of Chretien de Troyes, Hartmann von Aue, and Sir Thomas Malory), Spenser’s Faerie Queene, Tennyson’s Idylls of the King, and T.H. White’s Once and Future King. A bibliography lists selected major secondary studies of King Arthur as well as major reference works. |
