How do you complete an ‘off the lip’ in surfing tricks?
I’ve been short boarding since I was young and lately I’ve been trying to complete an ‘off the lip’ but every time I try it results in a belly flop. Any tips?
I’ve always surfed shortboards (5’10 to 6’2″) since 1977. “Off The Lips” were a basic manuever back in the 70′s and 80′s. They are not done with much finesse today as they once were. It’s a pretty easy thing to execute actually: Drop down the wave face frontside, drive a little hard towards the bottom of the wave to set up your bottom turn, crank the board hard into the wave as you are heading up the face, as the front 3/4 of your board clears the top of the wave, step hard on your tail and twist your body around in one fluid motion back down the wave face.
