Children are getting sexist ideas thrown into their heads every day!?
Well, I was mindlessly flipping through the stations when I noticed on Nickelodeon, the tv show we all know and love, (or dont…) “Fairly Odd Parents” shocked and disturbed me. It was an episode where the main protagonist, Timmy Turner, gets turned into a girl. He immeditly becomes ditzy and girlie, and thinks about unicorns, ballet, and rainbows. He has oversexualized makeup and jewelry, and then later characters claim “BOYS LIKE COMIC BOOKS AND SPORTS. GIRLS LIKE MAKEUP AND DOLLS.” This infuriated me. Girls that young should not have to be mainstreamed into liking that, and boys should be able to be sensitive and feminine also. Enter a lunchable box- The male caricature’s pictures were larger than the female caricatures and more center and upfront. Why, I ask, WHY???
Yes I hate those sexist characteristics. I wouldn’t thank my mother for becoming such a feminist. She raised me in all the traditional gender roles. When I was 7 she asked me if I wanted to start with a pastime. The alternatives she came up with were always ballet, horse riding, singing in a choir and piano lessons. When I was 7 years old I asked my mother if I could start playing soccer with my friend (a girl). She was skeptical to let me go and she told me that I wouldn’t really like it. I call it total brainwashing! I have been scared of balls (footballs, basketballs, volleyballs etc) ever since!!!
When I was 7 I wanted a Nintendo so badly. I usually sat home at my friend’s house playing Nintendo every day. My mother never bought me a Nintendo but she bought me loads of Barbie dolls, dolls, princess costumes and an expensive doll house.
I also think that she is focusing more on teaching my brothers intelligent things. They have much more books than I had when I was a child and they know a lot about the universe.

I was watching Star Wars with my half brothers who are 7 and 10 years old. I told the oldest one that Princess Leia was a really clever, tough woman. He replied “She cannot be because she is a woman. Women can only scream”.
Well…… Are we back to the 40s??? King Kong anyone?
