I agree totally with Jim’s answer which is very well thought out. It is not a mere memory but the personality of the individual itself magically captured in the portrait. We see Dumbledore giving instructions to Severus based on present events. It would seem the portraits could also process logical thinking process most probably because before he died, Dumbledore already had succeeding events thought out in his mind. If they’re mere memories, how then could we explain their reactions to Harry everytime he’s in the Headmaster’s Office? They gave him a standing ovation in the end.
Dumbledore always knows. LOL. If the centaurs read the stars, Albus reads the signs of the times, dwells more on seemingly mundane events and analyze them more than any other individual. He has sources, yes, but he was gifted with the gift of analysis that even with the simple information, yields a plethora of deductions from him.
Only JK knows. Personally I like the Put-Outer better. Deluminator is a mouthful. But the former is surely more Muggle-sounding, hence the term change.
Like Jim, it made me wonder, too. In PS, the Goblin asked for Harry’s key. Then in the succeeding books, we hear Molly saying they took Harry’s money and bought him his school things. With the Firebolt thing, given that Crookshanks took the order form and Sirius put Harry’s name on it, why would Gringotts take money out of his account? If Sirius was Public Enemy No. 2, surely his assets would be frozen or something? It’s kinda conflicting with the statement that there’s no better place to hide something than in Gringotts.

Wizards do not have to complicate things with base stations and cyberblabbers. Maybe you confuse “wireless” with the worldwide web. Remember that wireless is the (British?) equivalent of a transistor radio.
